“The Searchlight”
Lieutenant Myjer was in command of ‘Kazemat VII’ (casemate VII).
The Dutch Ministry of Defence was very nervous about the construction of the Afsluitdijk: a road leading straight into the Randstad agglomeration was a great source of concern. As a result, the Ministry quickly decided to build a defensive structure to accompany the construction of the Afsluitdijk. Everything was carefully thought out. In fact, so much time and effort went into the design of the searchlight that Lieutenant Myjer of the engineering corps would be greeted by an unpleasant surprise when he reported to Kornwerderzand.
