“The Generator”
Five small casemates along Stelling Kornwerderzand supplied electricity to the defence line.
In the event of war, the defence line complex at Stelling Kornwerderzand had to be completely self-sufficient. To ensure this, a number of small casemates built on-site housed a huge dynamo driven by a generator to provide light, warmth, and ventilation. These machines were carefully maintained and regularly tested. They are still being maintained nowadays. The volunteer you meet in ‘Kazemat A’ (casemate A) will explain.
A team of men was required to fill the generator with fuel.
