Franz Coltof (third from left) on the terrace of Hotel Keijzer.

The threat of war against Germany prompted the Dutch government to introduce conscription in August 1939. All men born between 1904 and 1920 had to enlist in the armed forces. Franz Coltof from The Hague, born in 1909, also received a call. His daughter talks about the call and how her father reacted to it. She is looking for ‘Kazemat III’ (casemate III) in the museum.

The telegram Franz Coltof received on 22 August 1939.
