“Camouflage”

Verhaal 8 van 10

Colourfully decorated ‘Kazemat IX’ (casemate IX) on the training wall at IJssel Lake.

Dazzle camouflage, a form of camouflage with complex patterns and colours, was used extensively during the First World War (1914-1918). The camouflage painted onto ships made it difficult to estimate a target’s range, speed, and heading. In the Second World War (1940-1945), dazzle camouflage started to be used in situations other than the Navy. The artist you will meet provides an explanation and vivid description of the camouflage.

A wonderful example of camouflage painting on a casemate.
