“The Spy”
Dozens, perhaps hundreds, of English planes crashed into IJssel Lake during the war. They were shot out of the sky by German anti-aircraft artillery or shot down in dogfights with German pilots. Many wrecks still lie on the seabed today. The wreck of a Lockheed Hudson was recovered in 1997. It was shot down on 6 July 1944 after its crew, four Dutch spies, were given away. One of the spies was Jan Bockma. His second cousin is in the museum and looking for his story.
